WOULD YOU LIKE A FIENDLY PHONE CALL?

(published by: Village Agent)

27/07/2010

Call in Time provides two FREE telephone based services:

FRIENDSHIP CALLS - Living on your own can be hard – particularly if you’ve been used to sharing your home or time with others. Not having someone to talk to regularly can be lonely and isolating. And that’s when a friendly chat on a phone can make all the difference. You can receive a weekly phone-call (lasting normally around 20 minutes) from one of our trained and supported volunteers, who are contributing their time to our service.

GOOD DAY CALL - These can provide a little extra reassurance when you’re on your own – especially at times when you most need it, e.g. when you’ve just come back from the hospital or experienced a bereavement. We can give you a short call several times a week, at a time that suits you best, for initial period of 8 weeks.

Here is what some Members have said about the Call in Time Service:

“You can’t put it into words. It’s just knowing that there’s somebody there especially when you live on your own. It’s absolutely brilliant when she rings up”.

“It’s extended my horizons having a different person with different experiences of life to talk to. It’s something I value and look forward to.”

All FREE calls are delivered Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5 pm. You can arrange to have a Friendship Call, or start with Good Day calls. If you think you or someone you know could benefit from the Call in Time service, please give us a call on 0844 225 0320 (local rate) or write to us (including your contact details, as listed below), using our Freepost address (no stamp needed):

Gloucestershire County Council Transport Consultation

(published by: Village Agent)

27/07/2010

Gloucestershire County Council recently carried out their ‘Talking Transport’ consultation. Using the feedback GCC have produced Gloucestershire’s draft Local Transport Plan (LTP3) setting out what they think the future of transport should look like in the County from 2011 to 2026. It is important to note that the LTP3 sets out the plans GCC think should be delivered to help improve transport. But, with huge national uncertainties over future levels of funding GCC have to be realistic about what can be achieved and when. GCC might not be able to deliver everything they want to. That is why it is important communities tell GCC what they think is most important for the future of transport in Gloucestershire.

Gloucestershire County Council’s vision for the future is of a safe and sustainable transport network for Gloucestershire.

They want people to feel safe and secure when travelling in the county on a transport system that is environmentally and financially sustainable. To achieve this they have transport proposals that will contribute towards:

•A greener, healthier county

•Sustainable economic growth

•A safer, securer transport system

•Good access to service for all

If you would like to take a look at their proposals in the LTP3 summary document, which can be found at www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/ltp3, and then complete the online questionnaire on the same webpage to tell them your views. You can find also find a copy of the full strategy online at www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/ltp3

Alternatively if you would like GCC to send you a copy of the summary and a questionnaire through the post to complete please email consultations@gloucestershire.gov.uk or call 01452 425690.

Copies of the full LTP3 strategy have also been placed at libraries and local council offices. The deadline for responses is 14th October 2010.
