GLOUCESTERSHIRE VILLAGE AGENTS FOR OLDER PEOPLE
Village Agents bridge the gap between the local community and statutory and voluntary organisations able to offer help or support. They provide high quality information, promote access to a wide range of services, carry out a series of practical checks and identify unmet needs within their community. The service is aimed primarily at the over 50's and is based in rural parts of the county.
Village Agents offer a facilitated signposting service and put people in direct contact with the agency or agencies that are able to provide the service they need. Agreements are in place with the following agencies, and the list is continually growing: Adult Helpdesk * Age Concern * Carer's Organisations * Department of Work and Pensions * Energy Efficiency Schemes * Fire and Rescue. Village Agents are managed by Gloucester County Council in partnership with Gloucestershire Rural Community Council and are funded by Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire NHS.
The role of Village Agent and cancer survivorship
From summer 2009 Village Agents are trailing working in a variety of ways with people who are living with or beyond cancer. Some of these may include:
* Providing face to face information and support.
* Pointing people in the right direction.
* Providing information and support to family members and carers
Community Agents
Community Agents facilitate access to services for older people in the ethnic minority communities across the county. They have language skills but their main role is not using their translation skills, but assisting people to find the services they need to maintain and promote their independence. There are Agents for the following communities: African Caribbean * Bengali Community * Chinese Community * Gujurati Community * Migrant Community.
